The Green Bay Packers, in one off-season, became one of the youngest teams in the NFL. By way of trade and deciding to not re-sign many veteran free agents, the Packers ushered in a new era. That being said, any time a young player becomes available who could benefit the team it may be worth looking into.
The Carolina Panthers are going through a tough 2023 season. Through six games the Panthers are winless and may be having a fire sale as the trade deadline approaches. That became more evident as they allowed one of their youngest players to seek a trade.
The Carolina Panthers Allow 2021 Second Round Draft Pick Terrace Marshall To Seek A Trade
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler:
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. has received permission to seek a trade, sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Thursday.
The Panthers (0-6) have discussed the matter with agent Vince Taylor and the team says Marshall is welcome back if a trade does not materialize, the sources said.
He has 16 catches for 114 yards in five games, including two starts, this season.
After not playing in a Week 5 loss to the Detroit Lions, he had no catches on three targets in Carolina’s Week 6 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Marshall, 23, has 104 catches, 742 yards and 1 touchdown since the Panthers selected him in the second round of the 2021 draft.
Would The Green Bay Packers Be Interested In Terrace Marshall?
While Marshall has been healthy all season, he hasn’t made much of an impact on offense. He was active and dressed for the Panthers’ loss to the Lions in Week Five, but didn’t get on the field for a single snap. Marshall said afterward he didn’t understand why he wasn’t included.
Marshall’s contract runs through 2024, with base salaries of $1.1 million this year and $1.4 million next, so the Packers could easily afford him if they think he can contribute more to a better offense.
While his production has been down in the NFL, Marshall had an incredible college career. During his time at LSU, Marshall started 20 games and appeared in 32. At LSU he had 106 receptions for 1,594 yards and 23 touchdowns. Marshall tied for fourth in school history in career touchdown receptions (23)
A big-framed receiver with great hands and good route running, he is one of only six players in the history of LSU to have more than 1,500 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns.
Additionally, during his college career he caught at least one pass in 27 of 32 games, had four games with at least 100 yards receiving, and eight games with at least two touchdown receptions. If a change of scenery is what this young wide receiver needs, he could fit right in with the Packers’ young core.
