The Green Bay Packers’ current backup quarterback is Sean Clifford and Ryan Tannehill is currently on the free agent market. Tannehill has been on the Tennessee Titans roster for the past five seasons and started most of their time with Tennessee. He lost his starting job last season to Will Levis and then Ryan Tannehill played again because of injury.
He is 35 years old and he may want to be a starting quarterback somewhere else, but there seems no market for him to be a starter. There is more of a market for him to be a backup quarterback at the moment rather than being a starter.
Tannehill may want to be on the free agent market and wait for someone to get hurt during training camp in order to get a starting spot. It would be better for him to be on any roster than not being on a roster at all.
The Green Bay Packers Should Try and Bring in Ryan Tannehill To Backup Jordan Love
A season ago, the Packers were just trying to figure out whether Jordan Love could play the quarterback position. Now that he is an elite quarterback, Green Bay needs to have a veteran backup quarterback behind like Ryan Tannehill in case something were to happen to Love. Tannehill has won games before in the NFL as a starting quarterback.
Sean Clifford served as the team’s backup quarterback last season, but he never played during the regular season. The fanbase has no idea what he can do if he had to come in. Clifford only got playing time during the preseason last year. They can also bring in Tannehill to compete with Sean Clifford for the backup spot.
Ryan Tannehill last season with the Tennessee Titans completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 74 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown. Tannehill is the best backup quarterback option available on the market. If the Green Bay Packers did not want to bring him in, that is understandable.
