Green Bay Packers Romeo Doubs Leads The NFL In This Stat

The Green Bay Packers season has been one to forget at this point. However, that does not mean there are no positives to come out of it. Second-year receiver Romeo Doubs is leading the NFL in a very interesting stat which could lead to a jump in production down the road.

The NFL leader in end zone targets is…Packers WR Romeo Doubs (10).

No one else has more than 8.

Green Bay Packers Romeo Doubs Leading The NFL

According to Mike Clay, Doubs leads the league in red zone targets. He has a whopping 10 in seven games and the next closest person has eight. This makes sense when you look at his stats on the year. He has five total touchdowns and has been who Jordan Love is looking for in big moments. While a lot of the other receivers are leaving much to be desired, Doubs has been impressive in his second year. He has a long way to go but he has earned the trust of his quarterback in the situations where the most are on the line.

Green Bay Packers place kicker Anders Carlson (17) kicked the extra point to give Green Bay the lead 18-17.

    Can Christian Watson Follow Suit?

By way of contrast, Watson has been a disappointment this season. He hasn’t taken a leap like Doubs has. Part of this is missing the first bit of the season. I think he is still working his way back into the offense. However, Watson has been dropping passes and being very passive with the ball. Last season, Aaron Rodgers seemed to trust the rookie in the red zone and Watson had some great contested catches. This year, he looks passive and can’t make a play. If Watson can show the improvement that Doubs has, the Packers might have a couple of good receivers on their hands.

Romeo Doubs is one positive for the Green Bay Packers this season. While I don’t see him as a WR1, he is settling nicely into a great supplementary player for the team.
