The Green Bay Packers have plenty of questions that they need to answer regarding their roster before the start of the 2025 NFL season. While most of these are on the defensive side of the ball, the reality that the team needs an addition to their wide receiver room cannot be ignored.
Christian Watson, a former second round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, will miss most of 2025 due to a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 18. As if losing him were not bad enough, Green Bay’s other top wide receivers, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks, all had drop percentages between 10 and 12%.
If the Packers are to take the next step towards being serious Super Bowl contenders, they need better production from the wide receiver position. And while that may include adding one or more in free agency and the NFL Draft, recent rumblings suggest that they may also be looking to part ways with one of their current pass catchers, further highlighting this need on the roster.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Had an Up-and-Down Year in 2024

Last season, Doubs posted 46 receptions for 601 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games. His 46 receptions were third on the team while his 601 receiving yards were fourth. Additionally, his 72 targets with third on the team and his four touchdowns ranked fourth.
But early in the season, Doubs expressed unhappiness with his role on the team. He skipped practices due to his frustration and was suspended a game for conduct detrimental to team.
In addition to this early season drama, Doubs suffered multiple concussions during the 2024 NFL season, leaving many fans concerned about his health going forward.
Combining the suspension with the injuries, many feel that, despite needing a wide receiver already, the Packers may make Doubs available via trade.
Kansas City Chiefs Writer Believes Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Would Fit His Team Perfectly

If the Packers do make Doubs available on the trade block, there is no question that there will be multiple teams interested. One of these will be the Kansas City Chiefs, who Matthew Schmidt of Sports Illustrated believes would love to add a player like him to their roster:
“Doubs expressed frustration with his role during the early stages of the 2024 campaign with the Packers, and while he appeared to settle in as the year went on, it’s clear that he is second fiddle to Jayden Reed. Plus, Green Bay may be in the market for another wide out in the coming weeks.
“That means Doubs could be expendable, especially considering that he is preparing to enter the final year of his deal. If he Packers do make the 24-year-old available via trade, the Chiefs should jump on it.
“Doubs would actually fit perfectly fine into Kansas City’s financial situation, as he carries a cap hit of just $3.4 million in 2025. If the Chiefs let Brown walk in free agency, he could slide right in as the No. 3 receiver behind Rice (if he plays) and Xavier Worthy. That would be very interesting.”
The ironic thing about this notion, not that it doesn’t make sense from a Chiefs perspective, is that Doubs was upset that he was not the number one option in Green Bay, and he certainly would not be the number one option in Kansas City. Not only would Doubs be competing with his fellow wide receivers for targets on the Chiefs, but the player that would receive the most looks will be tight end Travis Kelce.
Now, there is no guarantee that the Packers will give Doubs a second contract, especially based on what happened last year. That being said, with depth already a concern at wide receiver, it is hard to see them parting ways with him in 2025.
