“Both Sides Would Mutually Benefit”: Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Potential Trade Candidate For the Carolina Panthers

The Green Bay Packers will have many decisions to make about the wide receiver position this offseason. One player who may not be back on the roster next season is Romeo Doubs. Doubs this past season caught 46 passes for 601 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 13.1 yards per reception.

He was suspended for a game last season by the team. Romeo Doubs was also targeted 72 times last season. No one on the Packers roster last season went over 1,000 yards receiving for the second straight season. Some thought that Doubs could be the number one option for quarterback Jordan Love, but it never transpired.

Sports Illustrated Writer Matthew Schmidt Thinks That the Carolina Panthers Could Trade For Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs This Offseason

It is not a secret that the Carolina Panthers need to add more weapons for quarterback Bryce Young this offseason. The Panthers may look to add a wide receiver either through the NFL Draft or a trade. Sports Illustrated writer Matthew Schmidt thinks that Carolina and Green Bay could make a trade with each other.

    Schmidt said:

“Unfortunately, Carolina does not have a ton of cap space to pursue the very top weapons on the free-agent market next month, meaning that the Panthers may have to get creative.

Well, a very intriguing option could emerge for them: Green Bay Packers wide out Romeo Doubs.

Jaren Kawada of ClutchPoints has listed Doubs as one of three Packers players who could ultimately be released this offseason, citing Doubs’ inconsistent production and the frustration he expressed with his role in 2024.”

The Panthers would not be the only team that could be interested in Doubs if a team needs a wide receiver. The Pittsburgh Steelers could be another team to watch for in a potential Romeo Doubs trade with the Green Bay Packers. He is entering the final year of his contract with the Packers.

Listed As a Potential Cut Candidate

Jaren Kawada of Clutch Points listed three potential Green Bay Packers players as cut candidates before the 2025 season. One of the players that was on the list was Romeo Doubs. Kawada said:

“His standing with the front office mostly separates Doubs from the rest. The Packers notably suspended him in Week 5 for conduct detrimental to the team after he missed multiple practices and meetings. He reportedly grew frustrated with his lack of a role in the offense and lashed out in a way that caused Gutekunst to take action.

Like most of Green Bay’s skill players, Doubs is still on his rookie contract. He is owed just over $1 million in 2025, barely affecting the team’s cap. Yet, both sides would mutually benefit from a change of scenery. Doubs still has enough talent to get his career back on track in the right situation, and the Packers are in dire need of external receiving help.

The way Doubs has conducted himself over the past two seasons has not yet reached an Antonio Brown level of irritability. Still, his lack of production is insufficient to warrant it. General managers do not typically let personal opinions affect roster decisions, but Gutekunst would be well within his rights to rid himself of Doubs in the offseason.”

Seeing the Green Bay Packers release Romeo Doubs this offseason would be a shock. They would trade him to a team like the Carolina Panthers or elsewhere if they decided to move on from him. If not, Doubs will have a starting role on the team next year with Christian Watson potentially out for most of the 2025 season with a torn ACL.

If Doubs was released, there would be many teams looking to sign him as a free agent. He is only 24 years old and still has a ton of potential in the NFL.
