The Green Bay Packers are 1-1 to start the 2023 NFL season, and their rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, are 0-2 to start the season. Green Bay appears to be in a much better spot than Minnesota is at the current moment. The Packers will face the 2-0 New Orleans Saints this weekend, and the Vikings will face the 0-2 Los Angeles Chargers.
If Minnesota drops to 0-3 on Sunday, it will be hard for them to make a playoff push after making it a season ago with a 13-4 record. If this happens, rumors of quarterback Kirk Cousins getting traded could potentially get louder. Cousins is currently in the final year of his contract with the Vikings at 35 years old.
They could head in a different direction if things continue to go south. According to Christopher Kline of Fansided, he made an interesting trade proposal that would send Kirk Cousins to the New York Jets for a pair of 2024 draft picks (a second-round selection and a fourth-round selection). This would make sense for both parties.
Zach Wilson is not the answer for the Jets, even though head coach Robert Saleh has expressed his confidence in the young quarterback after Aaron Rodgers injured his Achilles on the fourth snap of the season for the New York Jets.
The Jets had to trade away some draft picks in order to get Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers this past offseason. This could affect the Packers if the Minnesota Vikings decided to trade away Kirk Cousins before the NFL Trade Deadline this season.
Green Bay Packers Will Have a Ripple Affect If the Minnesota Vikings traded away Kirk Cousins to the New York Jets
If Minnesota did trade away Cousins to the Jets, this would mean that the Vikings are trying to tank for quarterbacks like Caleb Williams from USC and Drake Maye from North Carolina. There are a lot of quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft to choose from this year other than those two, but those are the top two quarterbacks.
Some of the other names that could emerge potentially are Shedeur Sanders from Colorado, Michael Penix Jr. from Washington, and Quinn Ewers from Texas. One of those quarterbacks could torch the Packers franchise for years to come, but it is no sure thing that a quarterback will pan out in the NFL.
Jordan Love had to sit for three years behind Aaron Rodgers before becoming the full-time starter. Speaking of Rodgers, he plans to be back in 2024, so Kirk Cousins would obviously be a rental for the New York Jets. He would be the perfect fit for that offense because that defense the Jets have is elite. This trade would affect so many parties, not only in the present but in the future as well.
