The Green Bay Packers are going to be active in free agency this off-season. The combination of needs on defense with the large amount of cap space they currently have confirms this. The defense is expected look completely different with the overhaul of their defensive coaching staff.
The new era may have already started with news about a Safety being brought in to Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers Bring In Free Agent Safety
Sarah Witherspoon of Wisconsin Sports Heroics first highlighted the Packers bringing in Jenkins:Rayshawn Jenkins is ready to move on from the Jacksonville Jaguars and find a new home. Allegedly, Jenkins is reported to visit a handful of teams, Green Bay being on that list. Jenkins was released last week by the Jaguars to open up some cap space.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the veteran is set to visit Green Bay after visiting with the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.
Jenkins is a former fourth-round pick of the LA Chargers back in 2017 out of Miami. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.06M rookie contract with the Jaguars. This is going to be his first time testing out the free agent market after signing a four-year, $35M deal with the Jaguars.
While he’s set to make $8M this season, it won’t have any effect or impact on the team’s 2025 compensatory picks due to the fact that he was released in the offseason. In 2023,
Jenkins appeared in all 17 games for Jacksonville, recording 101 total tackles (seven for loss), one sack, two interceptions, and nine passes defended. 2022, he recorded three interceptions and three forced fumbles, and respectively made two of the biggest plays of the year with a game-winning forced fumble against Tennessee in Week 18 that sent Jacksonville to the playoffs, and a walk-off pick six vs the Dallas Cowboys.
