The Green Bay Packers have certainly been doing their homework for the 2024 NFL Draft. Official visits, being present at pro days, interviewing players both formally and informally, and watching endless hours of film.
However, it was reported today that the Packers won’t be bringing in an elite prospect who many have thought the Packers would have near the top of their draft board.
The Green Bay Packers Won’t Be Conducting An Official Visit With One Elite Defender

According to Easton Butler who has tracked Green Bay’s official draft visits all off-season long:
The Packers will NOT be hosting Cooper DeJean for a Top 30.

The Packers Could Still Be Very Interested In Cooper DeJean

The Packers have drafted players in the past who they have shown little to zero interest in prior to the draft. Not bringing in DeJean could mean a few thing:
- They aren’t interested in signing him
- Or they have seen enough tape to be interested in him and don’t need to bring him in
NFL teams love to keep their cards close to their chest for as long as possible, however, it would be hard to deny that the Packers didn’t have at least some interest in Cooper DeJean.
Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic has the Packers taking Iowa Hawkeyes defensive back Cooper DeJean in his latest 2024 NFL Mock Draft. His reasoning for Green Bay using this selection on him was as follows:
“Can DeJean play outside corner? Maybe, depending on the scheme and situation. Can he play safety? Absolutely, yes. DeJean is a versatile nickel with high-level return skills, and he’d fill a need for Green Bay.”
The Packers do need help at both safety and cornerback. It would be a good thing to have a versatile player in the secondary to play both positions. However, Green Bay would need to figure out if he suits the cornerback position better or the safety position better.
Getting that type of versatility in a Jeff Hafley led defense would be huge for this team.
