The Green Bay Packers have a plethora of questions surrounding them as they prepare for the 2023 NFL season. With Aaron Rodgers now the starting quarterback of the New York Jets, Jordan Love is taking over under center in Green Bay. His pass catchers this season will consist of six first and second year wide receivers and two rookie tight ends. With such a massive youth movement on their roster, the Packers are not being predicted to do very well this season by the majority of analysts. However, one former NFL executive believes that Green Bay will actually make the playoffs this season.
A Former NFL Executive Predicts that the Green Bay Packers Will Make the NFL Playoffs
According to an unnamed NFL executive that spoke with NFL Analysis Network:
“Look, I think everyone has already written this team off. The Packers are not rebuilding in any way. They still have a very talented roster. I think they make the playoffs this season with Jordan Love leading the way.”
This is certainly a promising prediction, one that will excite Packers fans. The fact of the matter is that Green Bay does have a talented roster. They are young, especially on the offensive side of the ball, but the talent is there. Additionally, the NFC North is not expected to be very good this season. It will be wide open for any team in it who gets hot at the right time.
Last season, the Packers’ defense was horribly inconsistent. This will need to improve in 2023 if the team is to have hope of making the playoffs. Despite Love being a first-year starter, this is optimism that the offense will look better as they rely on Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon more.
Relying on the running backs on offense will be vital. Not only will it take pressure off of Love and the team’s young pass catchers, it was proven to work last year. The problem was that the play calling (whether by Matt LaFleur or Aaron Rodgers) did not consistently give Jones and Dillon the number of carries necessary to make a difference. When Jones rushed 15 or more times in a game last year, the Packers were 4-1. When Dillon received at least 15 carries, they were 3-0.
The formula is there, and the offensive line is more than capable. If Love runs the offense the way it should be run, Green Bay will be in a great spot.
