With the NFL Draft only three weeks away, the Green Bay Packers are in the middle of putting their draft board together. It’s a 365 day a year process, especially with a franchise that likes to build their teams based on drafting and developing like the Packers. I thought it would be a good idea to begin going through mock draft simulators through Google and draft players I think The Green Bay Packers should draft. This mock draft I did was five rounds via Pro Football Network. Here were my results (I did not trade picks).
Green Bay Packers Pick 25- Cooper DeJean
DeJean would be a great fit in Green Bay. He would likely play slot corner, but can play regular corner or safety. I know the Packers signed Keisean Nixon to an extension, but I would prefer a player like DeJean, an excellent defender and tackler, in this spot. With the new rules to kickoffs, Nixon should get the chance to a really good return specialist. The section of DeJean would cover a big need for the Green Bay Packers.
Pick 41- Graham Barton
I would almost guarantee interior lineman Graham Barton out of Duke will not be there at 41. I will say I got really lucky when he was still available. If Barton is somehow available here, Brian Gutekunst should waste no time.
Barton is arguably, if not, the best guard in this class. He can also play multiple positions on the offensive line, something the Green Bay Packers love. They typically don’t use high draft capital on linemen, but Barton is someone the Packers could think about even at pick 25.
Pick 58- Edgerrin Cooper
I think Cooper is one of the better linebackers in this draft class. The Packers need another starter here after they released D’Vondre Campbell earlier this off-season.
In particular, Green Bay needs a player who can wear the green dot and call signals form day one. I think Cooper is a player that could do that. As much as I believe Quay Walker is prime to make a year three jump, he’s better suited for attacker the ball carrier and rushing the passer.
Pick 88- Jonathan Brooks
If Brooks did not get injured this past season, there’s a chance the running back from Texas could be a first round pick. I think Brooks is the best running back in this class.
While the Green Bay Packers did add Josh Jacobs, they brought back AJ Dillon for a next-to-nothing deal. They could move on from him at the end of training camp. They also like Emmanuel Wilson, but he more of a physical runner and third back on a 53 man roster at best. Brooks would be a great compliment to Jacobs in the backfield.
Pick 91- Roger Rosengarten
I like what the Packers have at tackle with Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom, but the depth after them is questionable at best. Rosengarten was a successful tackle at Washington and could be a fill in starter and see where he is in a few years. Tackle is not an immediate need, but a pick here provides depth and security should an injury occur.
Pick 126- Jaden Hicks
It was hard to pass up another safety with the caliber of Jaden Nicks. I do think safeties like Tyler Nubin, Kameron Kinchens, and Callen Bullock would be picked ahead of Hicks, I think he could be the second safety next to Xavier McKinney. At worst, Hicks is solid backup who should see a lot of playing time wherever he ends up.
Pick 169- Cedric Johnson
The edge rusher out of Ole Miss would provide some needed depth to this position after Kingsley Enagbare tore his ACL against Dallas in January. Who knows when he would even return. The Green Back Packers love this position group and a player like Johnson provides some depth behidn Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, and Lukas Van Ness.
