Green Bay Packers News: Mark Murphy Praying Aaron Rodgers, Jets Have Bad Year

Green Bay Packers news: A lot will be riding for the New York Jets this coming season. They went all in this summer on Aaron Rodgers in an attempt to bring the Vince Lombardi trophy back to New York after more than half a century. Yes, it has really been that long.

Green Bay Packers supporters will also have a lot invested in the Jets’ campaign. Not only do they want to see how Rodgers performs in his first year away from Green Bay, but at the same time, how New York fares this season will also have major implications for the Packers’ future.

Green Bay Packers News: Mark Murphy Hopes Aaron Rodgers, Jets Struggle in 2023

When the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets this summer, one of the assets Green Bay acquired was New York’s 2024 second-round pick. It’s a conditional pick, though, which will convert to a first-rounder in the event that Rodgers plays 65 percent of the Jets’ snaps this coming season.

Packers CEO Mark Murphy has made no secret that this is exactly what he’s hoping for in 2023:

“65%! Honestly, I hope everything goes well. But it would be really good if the Jets have a bad year because (we’d have) a very high pick,” Murphy said on 97.3 The Game.

I mean, he’s not wrong. It goes without saying that Packers fans would love to see Rodgers struggle in his first year out of Green Bay, but there’s obviously a bit more extra motivation for them.

“It is funny the motivations that you have,” Murphy said. “That’s the reality. That was the trade that was made and I think it made sense.”

Despite their unwillingness to take part in HBO’s long-running documentary, the Jets are still going to be featured on Hard Knocks this year. It isn’t exactly an honor for NFL teams, and New York will have no other choice but to take on the privilege (or curse?).

For his part, Mark Murphy is definitely looking forward to the show, and he’s already started hyping up the highly-anticipated documentary:

“I’ve been watching some of the teasers on Hard Knocks,” Murphy said. “That’s gonna be must-see TV for Packers fans.”

As Murphy said, more than a few Packers fans are going to tune in to that one.
