The Green Bay Packers have had a pretty solid running back room for a number of years now. This was especially the case starting in 2017 when they drafted both Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones. Williams spent four productive seasons in Green Bay while Jones ended his time with the Packers as the franchise’s third all-time leading rusher.
Even when they had both Williams and Jones, though, Green Bay was always looking to draft and develop running backs. In 2019, they drafted Dexter Williams to be their third running back behind their top duo. The next year, AJ Dillon was drafted in the second round.
After Williams left, Dillon was promoted to the second-string role as Williams departed in free agency. The Packers still wanted a young third running back, though, and drafted Kylin Hill in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Kylin Hill Did Not Spend Much Time with the Green Bay Packers
With Jones and Dillon ahead of him, Hill did not have much of a chance to get many offensive snaps. However, he was named the team’s kick returner out of training camp. In eight games as a rookie, he had 10 returns for 199 yards.
Unfortunately, Hill suffered a torn ACL halfway through his rookie season and was out for the rest of the year. While Hill returned in 2022, he did not have as big of a role on the team, and he made it known that he was not happy about it.
In mid-November of that year, Green Bay released him. At the time, head coach Matt LaFleur said, “I realize he is in a loaded room but regardless of your role — no matter how big or small — we expect guys to come to work and be supportive.”
Hill has not been back in the NFL since.
Former Green Bay Packers Running Back Kylin Hill Was Released by the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL
Hill did not play any professional football in 2023, but was signed by the Ottawa Reblacks of the Canadian Football League earlier this year. As their training camp winds down and their regular season is set to start, though, Hill found himself released by the team.
However, the Redblacks did decided to sign Hill back onto their practice squad, so his career in professional football is not over yet.
