The Green Bay Packers will host the Minnesota Vikings this weekend when they will renew the rivalry. One of the biggest rivalries within this matchup is Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson and cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Jefferson is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. A week ago, Alexander had a pick-six against the Tennessee Titans. It will be interesting to see who will get the last laugh in Sunday’s matchup.
Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Justin Jefferson Adds Fuel To Fire With Rivalry Against Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander
After practice on Thursday, Jefferson spoke to Kevin Seifert of ESPN about his matchups with Jaire Alexander. Justin Jefferson said:
“Always just [trying] to knickknack at every little thing and just try to play the head game. Just try to hit you a little extra or try to push you a little extra than normal people do. But I understand that it’s a tactic. It’s a tactic to get inside my head and to mess up my game plan and what I’m doing, but it doesn’t really work. I understand that he has some help over the top sometimes and he likes to do the jump jam and likes to put hands on to disrupt the route, but we have a plan for it. I can’t wait to go up against it honestly.”
Justin Jefferson only played in one game against the Green Bay Packers last season. Also, Alexander only played in one game against the Minnesota Vikings last season, but they didn’t face each other because Jefferson missed a game in October and Alexander missed a game in December.
Jefferson’s Career Numbers vs the Packers
Justin Jefferson has played in seven career games against the Green Bay Packers. In those matchups, he has caught 34 passes for 537 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 15.8 yards per catch. Jefferson has been targeted 54 times in those seven games.
The last time Jaire Alexander faced Justin Jefferson was on New Year’s Day 2023. Alexander held Jefferson to one catch for 15 yards receiving. It will be interesting to see what happens if Jaire Alexander can shut down the star wide receiver again this weekend.
