The Green Bay Packers had a promising season in 2023. The team advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs in Jordan Love’s first season as a starter.
In the coming season, the team will certainly strive to build on that success and become a true Super Bowl contender. In order to accomplish this, many believe that certain players should be retained. Aaron Jones has certainly been one of those players. Today, head coach Matt LaFleur commented on Jones’ future with the team.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Makes Statement About Aaron Jones’ Future With The Team
According to Ryan Wood of USA Today:
Matt LaFleur on evaluating Aaron Jones’ future with Packers, considering his age: “The product looked pretty good to me. He certainly had an impact on our offense, an impact on our team and the late-season push. I don’t know if we do all that without him.”
It was widely believed that Packers quarterback Jordan Love would rely heavily on Jones coming into the season. Fortunately, the Packers’ young pass catchers stepped up to the plate when Jones missed time with injury. Jones rushed for 656 yards (highlighted by three 100-yard games to end the year to reach that total) and caught 30 passes for 233 yards and another score.
I highly doubt many pundits would have guessed the Packers were still playing football in late January if you told them these stats were from Jones’ 2023-’24 season.
However, Jones proved his importance to the team when it mattered most. His 108 yards against the 49ers marked his fifth straight 100-yard game on the ground. The Packers certainly had chances to win that game and LaFleur expressed how disappointed he is that the team isn’t preparing for the Detroit Lions right now.
