The Green Bay Packers decided to move on from long time kicker Mason Crosby this off-season. In doing so, the team moved on from the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. The move was a bit surprising, however, given the unofficial “youth movement” the team had this off-season, it was to be expected. This was especially true after the Packers drafted kicker Anders Carlson in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Crosby has been waiting all season long to get another chance in the NFL, and today it finally came.
Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby Signs With The Los Angeles Rams (Breaking)
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo:
The #Rams are signing veteran K Mason Crosby to their practice squad with the intention of moving him up to the active roster in the near future, source says. After 16 years kicking for the #Packers, the 39-year-old Crosby will suit up for his second NFL team.
Mason Crosby played for the Green Bay Packers for all 16 years of his career. With 1,918 points, he holds the record for the most points scored in franchise history. He has also made the most extra points in his Packers career with 733. The former Green Bay Packers kicker played with the organization from 2007-2022. His contract expired after last season.
It is expected that Crosby will be promoted to the active roster “in the near future,” a sign that he will take over Lucas Havrisik’s position.
The week prior, Havrisik missed a field goal and an extra point in the Rams’ win over the Browns. In his first season playing regular season football, he’s now 7-for-10 on field goals and 10-for-11 on PATs. It is clear the Rams are interested in going in a different direction.
Crosby has made it clear all season long that he is staying ready for a return to the league. Now he gets to join a team that is competing with the Packers for a playoff spot in the NFC.
