The Green Bay Packers may have successfully moved on from long-time kicker Mason Crosby. So far Anders Carlson is 10-10 through two weeks. He’s made all eight of his extra points and is 2/2 on field goals including a 52-yarder Vs. the Chicago Bears.
However, it is still puzzling as to why Crosby remains without a job. The veteran kicker may be 39-years old, but he has remained one of the most consistent kickers in all of football. One report has surfaced that may explain why he hasn’t been employed yet.
Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby May Not Sign With A Team This Year

LaDarius Brown of Sportskeeda highlighted one big reason as to why the veteran kicker hasn’t been signed yet:
There are a number of possible reasons why Crosby is not kicking in the NFL in 2023. For starters, his age, as not many teams are looking for kickers nearing the age of 40.
Despite his success in the NFL, teams are looking to go younger as did Green Bay in this year’s draft with Anders Carlson.
Another reason could be his price tag, given that he made $4.3 million per season in the aforementioned deal last season.
Finally, the fit for most teams just wasn’t there. And it doesn’t mean Crosby is done. It means that there are better options out there than him at the position.

Crosby released a statement on Twitter prior to the start of the season. Crosby wanted to reflect on his career from high school through his days in the NFL:
“As the first @nfl weekend of the ‘23 season begins I’m still preparing but taking this rare moment of downtime to reflect on some of the past moments. So thankful for my family, great coaches and teammates and the support of all the fans. #football #grateful”
Crosby had been long rumored as a potential option for multiple teams this season. It will be interesting to see if any team takes a chance on Crosby this year or if Crosby is willing to take the veteran minimum just to get on a roster. Many Packers fans are confused as to why he still isn’t on a team:
Robbie Gould. Ryan Succop. Mason Crosby. Pick any one of them. They’d all 3 be upgrades…. “Not so Smart guy”.
