The Green Bay Packers, against all odds at the start of the season, made the NFL Playoffs after defeating the Chicago Bears 17-9 on Sunday afternoon. While the loss propelled the Packers into the postseason, it sent the Bears into an all-to familiar position for them: last place in the NFC North.
While there were talks that Bears head coach Matt Eberflus would be fired at the end of the season, the front office in Chicago has decided to stick with him for at least one more year. His offensive coaching staff, however, is not so lucky.
It was reported today on social media that the Bears have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, along with multiple members of his coaching staff. After the resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams at the beginning of the season, Chicago is now looking for all new coordinators in 2024.

Getsy, of course, was hired by Chicago after spending 2014-2021 (except 2018 when he was the offensive coordinator at Mississippi State) with the Packers. During his time in Green Bay, Getsy held the positions of quality control coach, wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach, and passing game coordinator.
Some Green Bay Packers Fans Want Luke Getsy Brought Back
During Getsy’s tenure in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers won three NFL MVP Awards (2014, when Getsy was an offensive quality control coach, and 2020-2021 when he was the quarterback coach). While the Packers’ offense was one of the best in the NFL for most of Getsy’s tenure, his failure to elevate the Bears’ offense indicates that Green Bay’s success was the result of head coaches Mike McCarthy and Matt LaFleur.
Still, Getsy was handpicked by Rodgers to be his position coach when Tom Clements retired (ironically, it was Clements who then replaced Getsy when the latter took the offensive coordinator job with Chicago). His history, or at least that of the offense’s success during his time in Green Bay, has many Packers fans calling for LaFleur to bring him back on staff in some capacity in 2024:
I’d be fine with it, honestly.
Getsy took a lot of crap from Bears fans, but their talent level on offense is not impressive and Fields is just not very good. https://t.co/iNP17iBXbW

if tom clements isn’t coaching in green bay next year — or at all — luke getsy should be more than welcomed back imo https://t.co/yS2rurpzsq

Matt LaFleur likes familiarity, so if Tom Clements retires or Adam Stenavich gets a playcalling OC job, I could see it.
On the other hand, Aaron Rodgers was a big driver of the Getsy hire originally. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but he’s not a Packer anymore. https://t.co/0HM9PzTcye

Luke Getsy will be back on the Packers coaching staff next year.

As mentioned, Clements is still the quarterback coach in Green Bay and has not given any indication that he will retire (again). Adam Stenavich is entrenched as the offensive coordinator and Jason Vrable has done an excellent job with the Packers’ young wide receivers. It is hard to see where Getsy would fit on the coaching staff as is.
That being said, anything can happen. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that it was Rodgers who picked Getsy as quarterback coach. He has the ear of the New York Jets’ front office and Getsy worked with Nathaniel Hackett in Green Bay.
It would not be a surprise to see him hired by New York next year.
