The Green Bay Packers have to feel good about their wide-receiving group going into 2023 and beyond. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs showed in 2022 that they have the potential to be real weapons in this league. The addition of Jayden Reed creates for a lot of different offensive looks the Packers didn’t have last year. However, there is one more name that could take that group to the next level, and he appears to be on the way out from his current team.
Green Bay Packers Have Been Linked To Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Wide Receiver Mike Evans Who Is Reportedly On The Way Out
According to WSH Media:
As things stand, Mike Evans will likely leave the Buccaneers after this season.
Having reached an impasse regarding an extension of his contract, the greatest offensive weapon in the team’s history is likely to play his final season with them in 2023.
In 2018, Evans signed a five-year, $82 million contract that will expire at the end of this season. The Buccaneers have not made any progress in extending Evans’ contract despite the fact that he turned 30 just a few days ago.
According to reports, Evans is attempting to reach an agreement similar to that signed by Rams receiver Cooper Kupp, who signed a three-year, $80.1 million contract in which $75 million of that was guaranteed as well as a $20 million signing bonus.
The Packers have been linked to Mike Evans before, however, this time it feels different. The Packers are clearly willing to give up draft capital for a star player AND commit to a long-term contract. That became evident when it was reported that the Packers were in on the Jonathan Taylor trade sweepstakes.
Now, is there a difference between trading for a 24-year-old running back entering the prime of his career and a 30-year-old wide receiver who may give you another 1-3 years of high quality play? Absolutely. However, that sentiment also changes the trade package in which the Packers would have to offer.
It it very likely the Packers could get Evans for much less than what Jonathan Taylor would cost.
