Green Bay Packers rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd has not seen much action on the field in the offseason. He was not able to participate early in the Packers training camp due to a lower-body injury. When it was time to see action in the preseason, Lloyd suffered an injury while making a play against the Cleveland Browns.
MarShawn Lloyd will have to be patient
The Packers are just days away from making their 2024 debut against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paolo, Brazil, so it will be intriguing to see what kind of role Lloyd will have in that contest if he even plays at all. For Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, expectations on the rookie in Week 1 should be tempered.
“We don’t want to give him something he’s never done before, I think that’s unfair to the player,” LaFleur said, per Zach Kruse of Packers Wire.
“We have to teach him, put him through it and then have that confidence that he can go execute that in the game.”
Lloyd was selected by the Packers in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He played his first two seasons in college with the South Carolina Gamecocks before transferring to the USC Trojans for his junior campaign. In his lone season with the Trojans, Lloyd rushed for 820 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries.
The Packers have no reason to rush Lloyd. They have a shiny new RB1 in the form of Josh Jacobs, who signed a four-year deal worth $48 million with Green Bay last March.
