The Green Bay Packers kept rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd on the 53-man roster past Tuesday’s roster cuts deadline. Lloyd was a third-round pick from USC in the 2024 NFL Draft. Entering training camp, he was listed third on the Packers’ depth chart at the running back position.
Along with Lloyd, Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson also made the roster at the running back position. A.J. Dillon was placed on season-ending injured reserve for the Green Bay Packers because of a neck injury.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Does Not Land On Injured Reserve To Start the 2024 Season
The good news for the Packers to start the 2024 season is that the rookie running back will not land on injured reserve. On Tuesday morning, many speculated that Lloyd was going to land on injured reserve to start the 2024 season. Had he been placed on injured reserve, it would have been two running backs that would have landed on that list.
It will be interesting to see whether or not he will be ready for the Week 1 matchup in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles. Lloyd has a chance to make a name for himself this offseason but missed most of preseason action due to injury.
High Potential
Marshawn Lloyd has a ton of potential this season in the Packers backfield. Many are wondering if they should have him on their fantasy football roster. The truth is, it wouldn’t be worth it to have him for now unless Josh Jacobs got injured.
The last thing that the Green Bay Packers need is for Jacobs to get hurt. Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson would be the running backs to rely on then. Some fans think that Wilson has potential and are happy that he is not on injured reserve.
AJ Dillon out for the season. Josh Jacobs likely starts the season with a big workload but there isn’t much in the way for Marshawn Lloyd to carve out a big role

Had A.J. Dillon not been on injured reserve, he would have been the backup running back to Josh Jacobs. Instead, it is time for Marshawn Lloyd to shine at some point if injuries don’t act up during his rookie season.
