The showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers this coming Sunday has plenty of storylines. For one, it’s a good old rivalry game between two NFC North division teams.
The Vikings are undefeated through three games, while the Packers have won their last two games. There is also the return of running back Aaron Jones to his old stomping grounds. Then there’s the highly anticipated individual matchup between Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson and Packers wide receiver Jaire Alexander.
Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings game will feature another Justin Jefferson-Jaire Alexander faceoff
There is a history between the two players. During Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season, Jefferson torched Alexander and the Packers for nearly 200 receiving yards to go with two touchdowns. Alexander got his payback several weeks later when the Packers allowed Jefferson to just have 15 receiving yards on one catch. In that same game, Alexander parodied Jefferson’s “Griddy” celly.
“He likes to do that stuff to get inside someone’s head,” Jefferson said on Thursday (h/t Kevin Seifert of ESPN). “I’m not really tripping on that. I’m going to just get my Griddy in his end zone. So, I’m not tripping on it at all. I’m excited for the matchup.”
Adding to the hype of this Jefferson-Alexander matchup is the long wait for another chapter in their rivalry. Jefferson was sidelined with an injury in the first Packers-Vikings matchup in the 2023 while Alexander did not suit up in the second meeting that season due to suspension.
On the season, Jefferson has 273 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 14 receptions. Alexander, on the other hand, has two interceptions and four passes defended.
