The Green Bay Packers franchise is filled with many iconic players. The Green Bay Packers Hall Of Fame holds names like Brett Farve, Charles Woodson, and Al Harris, which are ubiquitous in their era. As for the Aaron Rodgers era, which has since come and gone in Green Bay, Jordy Nelson is a name most Packers fans hold a fondness for.
In 2023, Nelson joined the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. In 2024, Jordy took up a new unique role with the NFL.
Jordy Nelson’s History With The Green Bay Packers
Jordy Nelson had a highly productive career with the Green Bay Packers, recording 550 receptions for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns over 10 seasons. He surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark four times and was instrumental in the Packers’ 2010 Super Bowl victory, catching a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
Nelson’s standout season came in 2014 when he set career highs with 98 receptions and 1,519 receiving yards, earning Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors. In 2016, he was honored as the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year after bouncing back from an ACL tear. In only 2023, Nelson was enshrined in the Packers Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy with the team.
Jordy Nelson’s New Job With The NFL
Jordy Nelson, the former Green Bay Packers standout wide receiver, is staying active in the NFL—but not on the field. According to a recent league press release, Nelson has taken on a new role as an appeal-hearing officer for player-discipline cases with the NFLPA.
Nelson is one of four ex-players currently serving as appeal officers, as highlighted in the NFL’s announcement of Chargers safety Derwin James’ recent suspension. James received a one-game ban following repeated violations of safety regulations, including a helmet-to-helmet hit in a game against Pittsburgh.
The initial suspension was handed down by Jon Runyan, the NFL’s vice president of football operations and father of former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr.

If a player appeals their suspension, their case is reviewed by one of four former NFL players: Derrick Brooks, Kevin Mawae, Ramon Foster, or Nelson. In the James case, it was Brooks who heard the appeal and upheld the decision.
Previously, only Brooks and James Thrash were tasked with hearing appeals, but Nelson and other additions may streamline and speed up the process.
