For years, Green Bay Packers fans have been wondering what their offense would look like with Tee Higgins on their roster. Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, many of these fans wanted general manager Brian Gutekunst to select Higgins to pair with Davante Adams as a top-tier target for then-quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
However, Green Bay instead selected Jordan Love. The reasoning behind their selection was clear: Love was going to replace Rodgers as the Packers starting quarterback one day, which he, of course, did in 2023.
And while Rodgers led the Packers to an NFC Championship Game in 2020 and won two NFL MVP Awards after Love was drafted, many have wondered how much further Green Bay could have gone with Higgins on the roster.
Many Green Bay Packers Fans Still Want Tee Higgins
Since being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round (33rd overall pick) in 2020, Higgins has emerged as one of the NFL’s most exciting wide receivers. In five seasons, he has 330 receptions for 4,595 yards and 34 touchdowns.
He also, though, plays on the same team as Ja’Marr Chase, who many consider to be the best wide receiver in the game. Chase won the wide receiver Triple Crown this season with 127 receptions for 1,708 yards, and 17 touchdowns.
Needless to say, Chase is going to be expensive for the Bengals to re-sign before he hits free agency, but it is also a foregone conclusion that they will re-sign him. However, that will leave them with very little money to spend on Higgins, who himself is looking to get a lucrative next contract.
Since Cincinnati will not be able to afford both, many expect Higgins to hit the free agent market, where he will be one of the most pursued players by multiple teams.
Packers fans would love for Green Bay to be one of those teams.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Discusses the Possibility of Adding Tee Higgins
Earlier this week, Packers running back Josh Jacobs made waves when he stated that he believes Green Bay should sign a proven number one wide receiver.
On Thursday, Jordan Love was asked about those comments, and stated:
“Yeah, I think we have different guys who can play and do different things better than other guys. I think we have a deep wide receiver room, obviously like you mentioned Tucker Kraft, but I think we have a lot of guys that can grow into that role.
“I think we’re still young, we’re still building this thing, and guys are still proving themselves.
“So, you know, Josh made those comments, and I’m always going to ride for my guys. I love the guys we have. I always say, if you add good players to an already good offense, you have a better team.”
After saying this Love was asked about the possibility of the Packers signing Higgins in free agency. To this, Love responded, “Tee’s a phenomenal player. I know Tee pretty well. If you add a really good player to a really good offense, I think the sky’s the limit.”
Obviously, the Packers quarterback was being diplomatic with his answer, falling well short of saying he wants the team to go out and get Higgins. It is noteworthy, though, that he knows the Bengals star really well already and that he believes the sky would be the limit for the offense with him on the team.
