The time has finally come for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. After all the talk in the offseason, we will all finally get to see what this young man is capable of as the team’s new QB1 when Green Bay takes on their age-old rivals, the Chicago Bears, on Sunday.
For their part, the Bears know that this is going to be a big game for the 24-year-old. It also follows that Chicago will do everything it can to make sure that Love’s QB1 debut isn’t a smashing success.
Chicago Bears’ Plan for Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love
Speaking to reporters on Thursday before practice, Bears defensive coordinator Alan Williams opened up about their game plan for the opposing quarterback. Love has been under the shadow of the great Aaron Rodgers in the young QB’s two years in the NFL, which means that there isn’t much game film to study. Williams and his staff have definitely taken this into account.
“What we’re trying not to do is hunt up too many ghosts,” Williams said, via Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun Times (paywalled). “What we have to focus on is what Green Bay has done up until this point … and then look at Love in the preseason and see what he does well.
“He gets the ball out of his hand, he throws a phenomenal deep ball, outside he has great touch, it seems like he makes good decisions — fast decisions, fast processor.”
It doesn’t sound like the Bears are going to be studying Love’s film from his days in Utah State. It appears that most of their scouting has focused on what the former first-round pick has done in Green Bay’s three preseason games. That’s obviously not enough to determine everything Jordan Love brings to the table, but at this point, the Bears will have to settle for what’s available.
There’s no better way to open the season with a rivalry matchup, and this is exactly what’s in store for both Packers and Bears fans everywhere. This also adds another layer of pressure for Love as he looks to make an immediate impact in Green Bay’s first game in their post-Aaron Rodgers era.
