The Green Bay Packers have two key players on the injury report, and it opens up the door for rookie wide receiver Jayden Reed to step up on Sunday on the road against the Chicago Bears in the season opener. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are both on the injury report and did not practice on Wednesday for Green Bay. They are the Packers’ top two wide receivers heading into the season.
This is not ideal for Green Bay heading into their Week 1 matchup against Chicago. Watson’s injury is unknown and head coach Matt LaFleur will speak more about it later. As for Romeo Doubs, he has been dealing with hamstring issues ever since before their last preseason game occurred when they took on the Seattle Seahawks.
If for some odd reason, Watson and Doubs can’t suit up on Sunday, rookie Jayden Reed would fill in as the top wide receiver for Jordan Love. Reed also had a really good preseason for the Green Bay Packers and is a second-round pick out of Michigan State.
He would become the number one receiver in this football game, and the possible number two wide receiver could be undrafted rookie Malik Heath from Ole Miss, who also had a tremendous preseason.
Jayden Reed Ready To be the Green Bay Packers Top Receiving Option

As they say, availability is the best ability. Reed caught four passes for 46 yards receiving and one touchdown during the preseason, and he averaged 11.5 yards per catch. On the depth chart, Reed is supposed to be the third receiver, but injuries occurring on this team at this position are what is going to give him a bigger opportunity to be successful potentially.
He is going to have to help out Jordan Love in the passing game this weekend. Reed is going to have to be the receiver he was at Michigan State with the Spartans. Along with him, Malik Heath is going to have to step up as well if Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are out this weekend.
