Back in August, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur expressed his annoyance over repeated inquiries about who his team’s top wide receiver (or WR1) is. At that time, LaFleur said that in his eyes, the Packers “have a bunch of them (WR1s).”
Weeks later, Jayden Reed emerged as the best Packers wide receiver during Green Bay’s season-opening loss in Brazil to the Philadelphia Eagles. Still, Reed echoed LaFleur’s sentiment, saying that anyone in the Packers’ wide receiving room is capable of exploding on any given week.
Via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
“With this room, it’s any given week,” Reed said. “Anybody can make those plays I made today in the room. We’re very dynamic in that room. I don’t look at it as a wide receiver one thing. I think we all are ones, if you ask me.”
Jayden Reed led the Green Bay Packers receivers in Week 1
In their 34-29 loss to the Eagles, Reed led all players from either side with 138 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions and six targets. He could have also scored two touchdowns in the game, but he got one taken away during the opening drive after it was found that the Packers and the Eagles both had 12 men on the field.
In any case, Reed had a promising start to his 2023 season. Jordan Love’s injury lowers the floor and ceiling of the Packers’ passing attack, but that doesn’t change the mindset of Reed and the rest of Green Bay’s downfield weapons, including the likes of Dontayvion Wicks, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs.
The Packers are scheduled to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, as Green Bay plays its first game at Lambeau Field this season.
