The Green Bay Packers might not have started the season they way they wanted after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil, but there are a couple of good things to come out of the 29-34 loss.
Many feared that Jordan Love’s injury late in the game may have some serious repercussions to the team’s playoff hopes, but team doctors revealed that the Utah State product may be returning to the lineup sooner than previously feared.
Moreover, the offensive line also performed better than imagined. Despite losing a couple of key figures in the O-line room, they limited Philadelphia’s pass rush from doing whatever they wanted on their QB1.
That’s not the only relevant story to come out of the Packers offensive line, though. It’s been revealed that one of the team’s former star linemen has made a move that would greatly impact how the team operates moving forward.
David Bakhtiari wins injury protection benefit from the Green Bay Packers after being cut
David Bakhtiari has been a fixture within the Green Bay Packers offensive line for years. The two-time All-Pro lineman has been a reliable cover for Aaron Rodgers ever since he joined the team in 2013.
However, Bakhtiari finds himself without a team after the Packers decided to release him from the roster due to his injury. Due to this, he appealed to get a portion of the pay he was supposed to receive for the coming season.
Analyst Ken Ingalls reported that his appeal was successful and would have repercussions to the Packers’ salary cap this season:
As expected, David Bakhtiari filed for injury protection benefit from the Packers after being released with a failed physical designation before the 2024 season.
He will receive $2,050,000 with $1,230,000 counting against the Packers 2024 salary cap for this claim. pic.twitter.com/1ocz6DC2nY

Bakhtiari was a solid part of the Green Bay Packers offensive line for the majority of the 2010s. He rarely missed more than seven games during his first eight years in the league, but the 2021 season saw his health rapidly decline. He only appeared in 13 games in the past three seasons, which made the front office’s decision to cut him the most logical solution.
