The Green Bay Packers are looking to get back on track against the Carolina Panthers this week. Sitting at 6-8, the Packers have a slim chance to make the playoffs. Winning out gives the team an extremely good shot, however, as of late it is hard to believe this team could win three straight (again).
However, that three game winning streak may have just gotten a little harder. Specifically on the offensive side of the ball.
The Green Bay Packers Could Be Without One Of Their Best Weapons When They Take On The Carolina Panthers
According to Zachary Jacobson of Packer Report:
Jayden Reed is now battling a toe injury. It’s his third different injury since Nov. 21, but he’s played in all four of the Packers’ games in that span while fighting through chest and ankle injuries. The kid’s tough.
Reed is quickly turning into one of the toughest players on the Packers’ offense. The amount of injuries he has played through (and played well might I add) is nothing short of impressive.
However, toe injuries are a different animal. While the two injuries could be completely different, it is worth noting that back in 2019, Davante Adams missed nearly a month due to turf toe.
Who Will The Packers Turn To If Reed Is Unavailable On Sunday Against The Panthers?
Obviously, the top answer would be Christian Watson if he is able to return from his hamstring injury. However, another young wide receiver is quickly emerging for this team. Against the Buccaneers, Wicks had the busiest day of his brief career to date with Christian Watson (hamstring) out for the second straight game. In total, Wicks caught six of seven targets for 97 yards, connecting with quarterback Jordan Love on three plays of 20 yards or longer.
If Reed is unable to go, I would expect an even larger role for Wicks in the Packers’ offense. He has clearly earned Jordan Love’s trust. It has been tough sledding for the Packers’ wide receiving corps this year when it comes to injuries.
