The Green Bay Packers have one of the worst rushing offenses in the NFL this year. This is not what was expected of the team, especially with running back Aaron Jones coming off of a career-high 1,121 rushing yards in 2022. However, Jones has not been healthy this season. Aside from his dazzling Week One performance, he has missed two games with a hamstring injury and was limited in the Packers’ embarrassing home loss to the Detroit Lions.
With Jones sidelined, backup running back AJ Dillon has failed to produce. With so many questions at the running back position thus far, and in an effort to always do their due diligence, Green Bay worked out former 1,000-yard running back James Robinson, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
The Packers worked out former 1,000-yard rusher (with the Jaguars) James Robinson on Monday.
Other workouts were:
RB Clint Ratkovich (Northern Illinois)
LB Olakunle Fatukasi (Rutgers)
CB Thakarius Keyes (Tulane)
S Christian Young (Arizona)— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) October 2, 2023
James Robinson Works Out with the Green Bay Packers
James Robinson was an undrafted free agent back in 2020 when he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Not only did he make the team, he became their starting running, rushing for 1,070 in his rookie season to go with seven touchdowns.
Robinson and his Jaguars nearly pulled off an improbable win over the Packers that year. Green Bay won 24-20, but Robinson put up 109 yards on the ground.
Robinson was in the midst of another stellar season in 2021 when he, unfortunately, tore his Achilles tendon. He ended the year with 767 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games.
Last season, Robinson split time with the Jaguars and New York Jets, combining for 425 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 11 games.
The Jets cut Robinson in March of this year. Afterwards, he was picked up by the New England Patriots, but was released again in June. The New York Giants brough Robinson in for training camp, but cut him on August 27.
