The Green Bay Packers will be using the 2024 off-season to make tweaks to their offense and overhaul their defense (at least the secondary). The latter half of the 2023 season proved that the offense has all the pieces it needs to be successful for a long time.
The defense, however, is expected to see numerous changes in the near future. In fact, one inside analyst surprisingly named dropped two targets the Packers likely have their eye on.
The Green Bay Packers Reportedly Have Two More Targets In Free Agency
Seattle Seahawks reporter Brady Henderson highlighted the moves that Seattle made today:
It’s a standard release with Jamal Adams, I’m told. Not a post-June 1. That means the Seahawks will eat all the dead money in 2024. Seattle is also releasing Quandre Diggs and Will Dissly, as Tom Pelissero reported.
Packers reporter Rob Demovsky had an interesting statement when he saw both Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs being released:
Packers could make a run, especially at Diggs. Obvious need at safety with Darnell Savage likely to hit the open market.
Would The Packers Actually Target Jamal Adams Or Quandre Diggs?
As expected, the Seahawks released Adams, who was scheduled to earn $16.5 million in 2024 and count $26.9 million against their salary cap. That was an absurd amount of money to pay someone who has struggled to stay on the field for two seasons and has not contributed much to the team. In one of the most high-profile trades in Seahawks history, Adams’ time in Seattle comes to a disappointing end.
The salary for Quandre Diggs in 2024 was $10.4 million with a cap hit of $21.2 million. In 2023, Diggs started all 17 games and recorded 95 tackles and one interception. His career with the Seahawks included 18 interceptions and three consecutive Pro Bowl selections (2020-22).
These are two veteran options that the Packers have in free agency at one of their most needy positions. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley explained how important the Safety position is in the defense he runs. It may be a necessary move if the Packers want to be successful on defense in year one under Hafley.
