Green Bay Packers Land Play Maker From The New England Patriots (Trade Proposal)

The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are both entering a pivotal season in 2023.  The Packers are hoping Jordan Love shows he can be the franchise quarterback in Green Bay.  The Patriots are hoping that Mac Jones will bounce back in 2023 from a relatively disappointing 2022 season.  As it turns out, these two teams have been named in a trade that would bolster the Packers’ secondary.

Green Bay Packers Once Again Named In Trade With The New England Patriots For S Jalen Mills

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report once again named the Packers and Patriots in a trade that would land Green Bay a serious starting safety:

The New England Patriots could have one of the best defenses in the league this season. There’s talent at all three levels of the unit, and that includes a secondary that has quite a bit of depth.

Jalen Mills is a part of that depth, but it’s hard to envision him playing a huge role. The Patriots moved the former corner to the safety room, but Kyle Dugger, Adrian Phillips and Jabrill Peppers all appear to be ahead of him.

Then there’s rookie Marte Mapu. He’s played at linebacker, but he’s also taken snaps in safety alignments.

The Patriots were reportedly going to cut Mills this offseason. They changed their mind, moved him to safety and signed him to a one-year deal.

The only problem is that the Patriots have answers there too. The Packers have a few questions on defense. Depth at corner and the starting safety situation are two of the biggest ones.

Mills could be an answer on both fronts. If the starting trio of Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes and Rasul Douglas have an injury, Mills would be versatile enough to replace any of them. If they remain healthy, he could be a threat in their starting safety race.

What Would Jalen Mills Bring To The Green Bay Packers?

In the spring of 2021, Mills signed a four-year, $24 million contract with the Patriots. He has recorded 12 pass breakups and two interceptions in 26 games over the last two years.

Although Mills has primarily been an outside cornerback during his first two seasons with the Patriots, the 29-year-old defensive back has been moved all over the depth chart.

Packers could get Mills relatively cheaply if Patriots wanted draft capital for him.  In the event that Stokes or Douglas were injured, this type of move would give the Packers depth beyond those two players.
