The Green Bay Packers could be getting healthier at the most important time of the season. After three straight wins the Packers find themselves in control of their own destiny in the NFC. At 6-6, the Packers currently sit in the seventh and final playoff seed in their conference.
The Packers’ defense has been playing very well as of late. In their last three contests (Chargers, Lions, and Chiefs) the defense has allowed just 20.3 points per game. That is exactly what the defense has allowed per game all season long. 20.3 points per game ranks ninth in the NFL. Now, the defense could be getting back one of their most important pieces.
The Green Bay Packers Get Star Cornerback Jaire Alexander Back At Practice Today
Ryan Wood of USA Today Sports reported:
Packers back on practice field for first time this week.Christian Watson, Quay Walker and Darnell Savage did not practice.
Aaron Jones and Jaire Alexander practiced.
Due to a shoulder injury, Alexander has been sidelined for the past few games. The fact that he practiced on Thursday doesn’t guarantee his return to the 53-man roster this week, but he does appear to be progressing in the right direction. He was limited in practice all last week before being ruled out, so his ability to practice on Thursday doesn’t guarantee his return.
Getting Alexander Back Would Be Huge For This Defense
Alexander is one of the best in the league at his respective position. Adding him back to a defense that is already in the top 10 in terms of points allowed per game would be a huge boost. Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry commented on Alexander’s absence on December 3rd before he was ruled out for their contest against the Chiefs:
“You’re talking about a guy that is highly competitive and arguably the best at his craft at his position,” defensive coordinator Joe Barry said of Alexander after Thursday’s practice. “He wants to be out there. It’s been great. He’s had two pretty good days, yesterday and today.
Alexander will be a close name to watch going into the Packers’ Monday Night Showdown.
