Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has been struggling this season. After getting off to a 2-1 start, the Packers have lost four consecutive games, and Love has not played well in those games. If he continues to get off to slow starts in football games, is it possible that Jordan Love would get benched for backup rookie quarterback Sean Clifford?
They face the Los Angeles Rams this weekend, who are currently 3-5 on the year while the Green Bay Packers are 2-5 on the year, NBC’s Chris Simms said about Love possibly being benched for Clifford:
“The inconsistencies of the Packers offense. It’s even more than I thought it would be. I wonder with them if they’re going to start talking or getting Sean Clifford ready to go, ‘Hey, you might need to come in here if we go through another first half like we did yesterday where Jordan Love and the offense are that inept.”
If Green Bay ever decides to yank Love for Clifford, the Packers will draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Sean Clifford is a nice backup to have, but he is 25 years old, and Jordan Love is 24 years old.
Clifford doesn’t appear to be the long answer either, and it wouldn’t make sense to play him over Love.
The Green Bay Packers Will Stick With Jordan Love All Season Despite His Struggles
Love has completed 57.8% of his passes for 1,492 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight touchdowns so far this season for Green Bay. He has also rushed for 164 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. Jordan Love averaged 6.6 rushing yards per attempt.
No matter how bad he will play, there is no way they will bench him for at least this season unless he gets injured. Love was a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and general manager Brian Gutekunst traded up for him. Have there ever been discussions between him and head coach Matt LaFleur about benching Love for Clifford? Who knows, and if there have been conversations, it probably has been very interesting, and many Packers fans would love to know what it is.
However, the fanbase can complain all they want about benching Love. It isn’t going to happen for at least this year, and they need to get over it already.
