The Green Bay Packers had a very productive beginning of free agency with star signings of Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney as well as keeping multiple in-house talent. There was also the release of 2021 All-Pro linebacker De’Vondre Campbell. With this release, the Green Bay Packers lack depth in the linebacker position. Now after some time into free agency, many of the linebackers fit to be picked up are gone.
Green Bay Packers Miss Out On Denzel Perryman After Signing With Los Angeles Chargers
Denzel Perryman has been a respected middle linebacker in the NFL since he was drafted by the San Deigo Chargers in 2015. In his career, he totaled over 660 tackles in 108 games played. That level of experience would have gone a long way in a young Green Bay Packers defense.
Reunion: The #Chargers are expected to sign their former 2nd round pick and veteran LB Denzel Perryman to a 1-year deal, source said. Was in San Diego and LA from 2015-2020, now is back.

In two games against the Green Bay Packers Perryman put up 13 total tackles and a forced fumble in his rookie season.
Last season Perryman put up 76 tackles in 12 games. PFF graded him at 59.9, a rating that is not far away from a good mark for a bench linebacker. In the 2023-24 season, he was suspended for three games for repeatedly sloppy hits that endangered players. It is possible this came across as a lack of discipline for the Green Bay Packers.
NFL announced Texans LB Denzel Perryman has been suspended for three games for repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players, including during this Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Green Bay Packers’ entire linebacker core combined does not have as many snaps as Denzel Perryman in the position. Projected MLB1 Quay Walker has question marks around his tenacity in the run game, this would be alleviated with Perryman by his side. With players like Eric Kendricks, Blake Cashman, Jerome Baker, and now Denzel Perryman off the market, there are major questions on how the Green Bay Packers will help their linebacker group.
