Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks was the leading receiver in a loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-20. Wicks caught five passes for 97 yards receiving. He was targeted six times and averaged 19.4 yards per reception in the game.

This was his career high in receiving yards up to this point and he was only three yards receiving away from his first career 100-yard reception game. It has yet to happen this season for the Green Bay Packers for any wide receiver.
Dontayvion Wicks has caught 31 passes for 491 yards receiving and one touchdown this season. He has also averaged 15.8 yards per reception and has been targeted 49 times. Wicks was placed into the third wide receiver role because of the hamstring injury to Christian Watson.
He was out for the second consecutive game because of the injury and it was his fifth game missed this season because of it. Wicks has been the third-best receiver on the roster this season behind Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs and has been better than Christian Watson.
Speaking of injuries, Wicks was dealing with an ankle injury during the week leading up to Sunday’s matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He injured it in the New York Giants game and it appeared as if that ankle injury did not affect him at all.
Dontayvion Wicks said after the game to the media:
“I’m gonna do whatever I can to help the team.”
There have been a couple of times this season where Wicks led the Packers in receiving yards for a game.
Dontayvion Wicks Needs To Stay the Three Wide Receiver When Christian Watson Returns for the Green Bay Packers

Whenever Watson returns to the lineup and if he does this season, Christain Watson needs to be demoted to the fourth wide receiver on the depth chart. Yes, he has talent but has missed many games this season due to injury. Wicks has earned the role of the third receiver for the rest of the season.
Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs need to be the top two wide receivers moving forward. There will be discussions this offseason about what to do with this receiving core. It feels as if Reed, Wicks, and Doubs are keepers. Watson is going to be an interesting discussion.

General manager Brian Gutekunst found a gem of a wide receiver in the fifth round from Virginia. Wicks is showing potential of being great for this franchise and he needs to stay on the field because he is more available for this football team.
