The Green Bay Packers have a good player on their hands moving forward with linebacker Quay Walker. Walker will be entering his third season with the team under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. They will be going to a 4-3 defensive scheme instead of a 3-4 scheme when Joe Barry was the defensive coordinator.
Last season with the Packers, Walker recorded 118 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and one defensive touchdown that was returned for 37 yards on a pick-six back in Week 1 of last season against the Chicago Bears. Walker is only 23 years old and has the potential to be one of the best linebackers in the league.
Former Green Bay Packers Player DeVondre Campbell Believes Quay Walker Will Be Fine With the Green Bay Packers Moving Forward
DeVondre Campbell is currently a free agent and the Packers decided not to bring him back. He responded back to a fan on Twitter about him and Walker being great athletes. Campbell told that fan:
“Quay is going to be just fine. They just had him thinking too much he’s a dawg you don’t make dawgs think you just let them play. He’s a great player. I think this new system will fit him perfectly.”
A new system could do wonders for a player. Switching from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense could do wonders for Walker. The Packers’ defense needed a change in the offseason because they struggled to stop the run last season and had other problems.
Head coach Matt LaFleur stuck up for Joe Barry last season before making a change in the offseason. Walker will not be the only player in this system that can accel from a change. It is going to benefit the team in the long run with this defensive coordinator change. They will also need to add other defensive pieces to make this defense better other than the safety Xavier McKinney signing.
