Ever since the NFL split into eight divisions in 2002, the Green Bay Packers have won the NFC North 12 times. The Minnesota Vikings won it five times, the Chicago Bears four times, and the Detroit Lions have won it in each of the past two seasons.
Prior to 2023, the Lions had not won a division title since 1993. Yet, with their team’s recent two-year run of regular season success, Detroit fans talked plenty of trash to the Packers and their fanbase, especially after Green Bay lost to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
The Detroit Lions Lost to the Washington Commanders on Saturday Night
For all of the trash talk spewed by Lions fans and players, the team sure did next to nothing to back it up when it mattered the most: in the NFL Playoffs.
Like the Packers and Vikings before them, Detroit exited the postseason after their first game, a 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders. What is more, the game took place at Ford Field as the Lions had earned the top seed in the NFC.
After making fun of Jordan Love for throwing three interceptions in Philadelphia, Lions fans witnessed their own quarterback, Jared Goff, throw three interceptions of his own, including a pick-six. In addition, he lost a fumble.
Detroit wide receiver Jameson Williams also threw an interception on a failed trick play.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to the Detroit Lions Losing in the NFL Playoffs
As one might have imagined, Packers fans were waiting (and praying) for a Lions loss on Saturday night. After 30 years of being irrelevant, Lions players and fans sure let the team’s regular season success go to their heads, and now the Green Bay faithful are dishing it back at them:
Packers played their playoff opponent actually close. Minnesota and Detroit looked like abject garbage. Crazy how that worked out IMO!

My wife: “Is Dan Campbell crying??”
Me: “You have no idea. He cries on camera frequently.”
Wife: “Huh. That’s actually kind of embarrassing. I’ve never seen Matt LaFleur cry EVER.”

What makes the loss worse for Detroit is that two of their best leaders, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, are both expected to take head coaching jobs with other NFL teams next season.
Things may be very different for the Lions next season.
