The Green Bay Packers’ defense went over a massive overhaul in the offseason. They switched from a 3-4 defensive scheme to a 4-3 defensive scheme. Green Bay wasn’t the only team that went over some defensive changes in the offseason.
The Washington Commanders also made some changes to the defensive side of the football in the offseason. Washington is looking to improve in the 2024 season after going 4-13 last season.
Bleacher Report Writer Alex Kay Suggests That the Green Bay Packers Should Trade For Washington Commanders Safety Darrick Forrest
Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay suggests that the Green Bay Packers should make a trade with the Washington Commanders. Green Bay would acquire safety Darrick Forrest from the Commanders. Washington would acquire a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but the Packers already traded it to the Tennessee Titans for quarterback Malik Willis. Green Bay would have to change that to a sixth-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Kay said about the Packers making a potential trade for the Commanders’ safety:
“With Washington looking particularly deep at safety following the acquisitions of Jeremy Chinn and Quan Martin, he could be a tough cut for the squad. Rather than lose the 2021 fifth-rounder for nothing, the Commanders may want to offer him to Green Bay for a late-round pick.
Forrest is a talented safety who possesses schematic versatility and produced well on the field in a major role prior to his injury. He’d provide the Packers with a great insurance option who can contribute on special teams as well.”
Darrick Forrest was a fifth-round pick by the Washington Commanders in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati. He only played in five games last season for Washington. Forrest recorded 29 tackles last season for the Commanders.
Packers Are Good At the Safety Position
However, it may appear as if the Packers may not need to acquire Forrest in a trade. Green Bay overhauled the safety position in the offseason. They signed Xavier McKinney in the offseason. McKinney played for the New York Giants and many Giants fans were upset when they let him go.
They also drafted Javon Bullard from Georgia and Evan Williams from Oregon in the 2024 NFL Draft. All three of those safeties will get serious play time this season for the Green Bay Packers. Those three safeties alone will be good enough for the Packers this year and they wouldn’t need Forrest.
