The Green Bay Packers are back at home this week in an attempt to rebound from their brutal Monday Night loss to the New York Giants. At 6-7, the Packers still hold the final NFC wild card spot. The Minnesota Vikings’ loss to the Cincinnati Bengals dropped them to 7-7 on the year. That means the Packers can tie the Vikings’ record with a win and leapfrog them in their Week 17 matchup.
However, the Packers need to take care of business first against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, they are going to have to do so without a former offensive rookie of the year.
The Green Bay Packers Expect To Be Without Talented Defensive Playmaker Against The Tampa Bay Buccaneers
As a result of a shoulder injury, Green Bay Packers’ starting safety Darnell Savage won’t play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. After missing five games while on injured reserve due to calf issues, this will be his sixth this season.
In all, Savage has been targeted 15 times, allowing 12 receptions for 104 yards. A season-high three missed tackles against the Giants pushed him above his career average of 17.4 percent of tackle attempts this season.
While Savage is out, Jonathan Owens will likely play an extended role for the Packers. In addition to Owens and Rudy Ford, who has started eight games this season, seventh-round rookie Anthony Johnson Jr. will also get a chance to play.
