The Green Bay Packers were going to move on from multiple free agents this off-season. However, which ones remained up in the air.
Now one of those free agents gets another opportunity with an AFC contender.
Green Bay Packers Free Agent Signs With The Jacksonville Jaguars
According to multiple reports, the Jacksonville Jaguars are signing Safety Darnell Savage to a three-year contract.
Savage was taken by the Packers in the first round (21st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since then, he has recorded career totals of nine interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 302 combined tackles through 72 games. It was pretty clear that the Packers weren’t willing to invest much in a new contract for Savage. The Jaguars saw the opportunity to swoop in and sign the veteran Safety.

The Packers added void years to Savage’s deal to help them with this year’s cap, so they have about $5.5 million in dead money already on the books for him in 2024. They could opt to move on unless he wants to re-sign on the cheap as a depth player in the secondary.
Between 2021 and 2023, Savage intercepted only three passes and deflected 15 others. In 2020 alone, he had four interceptions and 12 passes defensed. As a result of missed tackles and missed assignments, Savage was eventually benched in the latter half of the 2022 season.
A new safety room will be built by the Packers. In Jacksonville, Savage will try to reignite his career.
