The Green Bay Packers got back in the win column in Week Three in dramatic fashion. The Packers trailed 17-0 entering the fourth quarter, however, an incredible 18-point fourth quarter led by Jordan Love sealed a victory for Green Bay’s home opener.
It is no secret that Green Bay’s offense is not currently at full strength. Today they were missing their starting left tackle David Bakhtiari, starting left guard Elgton Jenkins, starting running back Aaron Jones, and starting wide receiver Christian Watson. With the uncertainty of how long Aaron Jones could be out, and a few underwhelming performances from AJ Dillon, the Packers were named in a running back trade with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Green Bay Packers Land Rookie Running Back Chase Brown From The Cincinnati Bengals In Shocking Trade Proposal
A Packers newsletter titled “The Leap” suggested several players Green Bay could pursue for the running back position. A shocking name popped up, Chase Brown.
Despite his little usage as a Bengal, Chase Brown checks all the boxes that the Packers might be looking for in a new running back: “A young back like the Cincinnati Bengals’ Chase Brown could intrigue Green Bay.”
A fifth-round rookie running back out of Illinois, Chase Brown, was praised by ESPN as someone who could carve a role for himself in Cincinnati’s offense. Despite the Bengals starting Joe Mixon at running back this year, not many would have been surprised if Brown got opportunities.
However, this hasn’t been the case through the first two weeks as he has recorded one offensive snap and seven special teams snaps.
This is what Brown’s draft profile had to say:
Chase Brown is one of the most dangerous athletes at the position in this class and has the veteran-like skills to be effective sooner rather than later.
He exploded at the NFL combine, and it’s not hard to see that athleticism on film. When he is allowed to get to the perimeter or gets a lane through the second level, his burst is serious.
He kicks into a different gear instantly and rips past defenders with relative ease. Brown’s high-end speed is great as well. He’s got more than enough juice to be a threat for chunk plays every time he touches the ball.
On top of that, the Illinois product is a fairly capable runner between the tackles. He plays with precise, nimble feet while still managing to explode forward through openings when the moment arises. He also handles contact well and flashes the ability to fight through bodies.
It would be fairly shocking to see the Bengals off-load a rookie running back before they truly know what they have in him. It would likely take draft compensation higher than a fifth-round pick to get him out of Cincinnati.
