Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson was not spotted at practice on Thursday because of a hamstring injury, He injured himself in the fourth quarter on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs in a 27-19 win. Watson was starting to get going until that moment happened.
Because of the injury, it will be interesting to see if he is going to practice on Friday and the other days leading up to Monday night football on the road against the New York Giants (4-8). This isn’t the first time this season that Watson has been dealing with hamstring issues.
During the first three weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season, Watson missed time with the same injury. He has not had an ideal second season in the NFL. Christian Watson has caught 28 passes for 422 yards receiving and five touchdowns so far this season. He is averaging 15.1 yards per reception this year and has been targeted 53 times this season.
Christian Watson Being Injured for the Green Bay Packers is Nothing New As Dontayvion Wicks Will Be Ready to Step Up in His Absence
Watson was out the first three games of the season and Dontayvion Wicks started in his place over Watson. Wicks will be ready to be called upon if Watson is out on Monday night against the New York Giants due to injury. Dontayvion Wicks has seen more snaps anyway and he will get a lot more on Monday night.
Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs would be the other two wide receivers on the field for the Packers in a three-wide set. Wicks caught three passes for 43 yards receiving last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. He averaged 14.3 yards per reception in that contest.
On the year, he has caught 23 passes for 374 yards receiving and one touchdown. Dontayvion Wicks has averaged 16.3 yards receiving and has been targeted 36 times by quarterback Jordan Love. There were times this season that Watson being on the sideline would benefit Love.
Jordan Love has played well in the last three weeks for Green Bay anyway during this three-game winning streak. It is a shame that Christian Watson can’t stay on the field for now as Green Bay is heading towards another game with Wicks, Doubs, and Reed as the starting wide receivers against the New York Giants.
