Green Bay’s general manager, Brian Gutekunst, spoke to the media on Wednesday after the NFL trade deadline. With Green Bay sitting at 2-5 on the year, they look to improve quickly when the 3-5 Los Angeles Rams come to town this weekend.
There has been outside noise about quarterback Jordan Love. However, Gutekunst apparently has trust in Jordan Love despite his struggles this season. He told the media on Wednesday:
“We have a lot of faith in Jordan. We’ve got to get the offense playing better, and when it does those things will take care of themselves.”
If the regular season ended today, Green Bay would have the sixth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. A lot can change between now and then. Love can play great, or he could be benched for rookie quarterback Sean Clifford. Gutekunst can also change his tone about possibly drafting a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. There is still a lot of time left for things to happen.
Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst is Trying to Double Down on Trading for Quarterback Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL Draft
Gutekunst was the one who traded up for quarterback Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was from Utah State, and Love sat for three seasons behind Aaron Rodgers. If the Packers were to get a top-three pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, it would be completely nonsense and a fireable offense not to draft a quarterback to replace Love.
Yes, they do need offensive-line help. but the most important position in the NFL is quarterback. Jordan Love has shown he may not be the guy in the long haul. Brian Gutekunst also said on Wednesday:
“I think he’s done a lot of good things. Really like how he’s responded to the adversity.”
What good has he really done? Love has completed only 57.7% of his passes. That’s horrendous in the NFL. Green Bay has faced a lot of adversity this season, and the Green Bay Packers haven’t been really good at responding to it.
