The Green Bay Packers will be heading into the 2024 off-season with the intentions of going from a playoff caliber team to a Super Bowl caliber team. Jordan Love and the young offense around him proved to the NFL that the future is bright in Green Bay.
The defense will be going through some major changes, however, the amount of talent on that side of the ball means expectations will still be high. One of those talented players has been the subject of trade rumors as of late. Today, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst addressed those rumors.
Green Bay Packers General Manager Makes Stern Remark Regarding The Jaire Alexander Trade Rumors

According to Ryan Wood of USA Today:
Brian Gutekunst says there’s no consideration to trading Jaire Alexander this offseason. He was pleased with how Alexander returned from suspension, expects him to be pillar of #Packers defense moving forward.
A four-year, $84 million extension was signed by Alexander and the team last season. Initially, only $30 million of the $84 million was guaranteed as a signing bonus. In the five years that Alexander was under contract for at the time of his signing, that bonus is prorated (at $6 million per year) over the salary cap.
What Would It Cost To Trade Alexander?

Therefore, Alexander’s base dead cap (the cost to move on from him via a trade or release) in 2024 will be $18 million (the remaining signing bonus dead cap). Furthermore, most of Alexander’s 2023 money was restructured as a bonus. As a result of the new bonus, $9.4 million is added to the dead cap if the team wishes to replace Alexander in 2024, bringing the total dead cap to above $27 million.
What is the impact of a $27 million dead cap? There would only be four other dead caps larger than this one in NFL history: Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady (retirement), and Carson Wentz. In other words, it would be the biggest cap hit for a non-quarterback in NFL history.
On top of all of that, he is one of the best in the league at his position and (even after the suspension) has a great rapport with the coaching staff. Matt LaFleur consistently talks extremely highly of Alexander. As if we didn’t need any more assurance, Jaire Alexander will be with the Packers for the foreseeable future.
