The Green Bay Packers have not practiced with Jordan Love yet in this training camp. Love has been not practicing because he has not had a new contract extension. However, he has been in the building and has participated in all meetings. Green Bay has chosen not to fine him because he did report to camp on time. Things will be different once he signs his contract and starts practicing.
Sean Clifford, Jacob Eason, and Michael Pratt have been the quarterbacks taking reps in the meantime. It has not gone well to start for them. One of the biggest complaints about the Green Bay Packers by the national media is that they need a veteran backup quarterback to be sitting behind Jordan Love.
If Love were to get hurt at all this season, they would be in trouble. At some point, maybe the Packers will decide to sign a backup to have insurance. For now, the plan is to only have two quarterbacks on the roster.
Andy Herman Calls For the Green Bay Packers To Sign Ryan Tannehill
Andy Herman, who is a writer for Packers66 thinks that they need to make a move for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He is a free agent currently and he is waiting for the right opportunity. Tannehill would prefer to be a starting quarterback, but this could be beneficial for him. Ryan Tannehill is 36 years old and played with the Tennessee Titans last season. Herman said:
“We may need to have a Ryan Tannehill conversation. I fully get and understand the Colts/Peyton Manning mantra of “we don’t practice fu*ked” but the offense is a nightmare right now without Love. (To be fair it’s still insanely early and these are young QBs).”
Last season with the Titans, he completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 74 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Tannehill played in 10 games last season for Tennessee. Malik Willis and Will Levis started in some games for him because of injury and poor play.
The Green Bay Packers would upgrade at backup with Ryan Tannehill compared to Sean Clifford, Jacob Eason, and Michael Pratt. It appears as if Clifford is not going to make the 53-man roster this season. If Tannehill does not get brought in by Green Bay, Michael Pratt, who is a rookie from Tulane, would be the lead candidate to be Jordan Love’s backup this season. No matter how you slice it, Jordan Love has to stay healthy this season.
