The 2023 Green Bay Packers are going to look very different from the 2022 version. Not only will the team have a new quarterback under center in Jordan Love, they will also have a new kicker. Going into OTA’s, the Packers had Anders Carlson and Parker White on their 90-man roster. However, to make room for newly signed running back Emanuel Wilson, White was released. This means that Carlson, a sixth round pick by the Packers in the 2023 NFL Draft, will be the team’s starting kicker this season.

Anders Carlson Will Be the New Green Bay Packers Kicker

Anders Carlson is certainly far from a certainty when it comes to whether or not he will be a good kicker in the NFL. However, special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia has known him for years and helped his brother reach All-Pro level with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In his media availability last week, Bisaccia said the following regarding the Packers’ kicking situation:
“I think with all players in the National Football League, they’re going to ride the rollercoaster at times, regardless of the position. It just happens that the kicker is out there by himself, and they’re usually put in critical situations where you’re counting on them to come through.
“If Anders can perform like we think he can and can improve, I think we’re prepared organizationally as well as with a majority of the other draft picks to weather the storm to some degree positionally, and hopefully they can keep improving and get better with time.
“I think that’s how we’re going to approach the majority of our class and I’d like to think we do that with the majority of young players that we have.”
It certainly sounds like the job will be Carlson’s to lose. If he struggles or gets hurt, well, Mason Crosby is still a free agent.
