The Green Bay Packers have seen enough of Jordan Love this season to at least be optimistic that he could be “the guy” in Green Bay. Despite the brutal 24-22 loss to the New York Giants on Monday Night, the Packers still control their own destiny to the 2023 post-season.
While Love has overall had a productive year, there are certainly aspects that can improve. Longevity at left tackle is one position that will need to be addressed. Protecting Love’s blindside will be crucial in his development. That is exactly what the Packers are expected to do.
The Green Bay Packers Add LT Amarius Mims In 2024 NFL Draft In Trade Proposal To Solidify Jordan Love’s Blind Side
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report highlighted how the Packers can acquire their potential left tackle of the future:
It’s hard to figure out the specifics of what a move would look like until we see the draft order, but the Packers keep moving further and further back.
It’s sad to see David Bakhtiari’s run at left tackle come to an end, but it also doesn’t make sense to count on the oft-injured 32-year-old to ever return to his previous levels after playing in just 13 games over the last three seasons.
The Packers have done a great job of drafting and developing linemen in the past, but figuring out who is going to protect Jordan Love’s blindside is something that should require a blue-chip prospect.
Fortunately, this is a pretty good class to need a tackle. We have five tackles in our top 32 and Patrick Paul is lingering just outside of that cutoff at No. 40 overall.
The problem is with positional scarcity at tackle, the Packers might not have the luxury of sitting back and waiting for who will fall to them. If there’s a tackle they like more than the others than a trade should be on the table to move up the board and get their guy.
Would The Packer Invest Heavily At The LT Spot?
Bakhtiari showed in Week One that he is still one of the best left tackles in the NFL. Both Yosh Nijman and Rasheed Walker have failed to take over the position permanently while he has been absent. Additionally, Bakhtiari revealed he would like to be back with the Packers in 2024.
This Green Bay front office loves to invest premium draft capital into the offensive and defensive lines. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see the Packers draft their LT of the future even if Bakhtiari comes back for his 12th season in 2024.
