Without a question, the biggest move of the NFL offseason was when the Green Bay Packers traded four-time MVP and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Not only did it mean that the Jets would have one of the best quarterbacks of all time under center, it also meant that they inherited the pressure Rodgers put on the front office to get or keep guys he wanted to play with.
In a kind of pre-emptive strike, New York signed wide receiver Allen Lazard to a four-year $44 million contract before even making the trade for Rodgers. After the trade, they signed quite a few of Rodgers’ former teammates with the Packers, including Randall Cobb, Billy Turner, and Adrian Amos.

Of course, the 2023 NFL season has not gone the way the Jets had anticipated. Rodgers tore his Achilles four snaps into their first game, effectively ending his season (barring an unexpected medical miracle). Additionally, the free agents they signed away from the Packers have not performed the way they expected them too, and New York fans are regretting the signings.
Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb Are Highly Unpopular Among New York Jets Fans
This season, Lazard has just 19 receptions for 273 yards and a touchdown, far below the production he had last year with the Packers. Cobb, who was a healthy scratch on Monday night against the Los Angeles Chargers, has just three receptions for 20 yards this season.
To say that Jets fans are disappointed would be an understatement. Even with Zach Wilson at quarterback, they expected these receivers, especially Lazard (making $11 million a year) to be much better than they are. Following New York’s loss to Los Angeles on Monday night, they took to social media to voice their frustration with Rodgers’ buddies:
Aaron Rodgers is a HoF QB, but his work as a @nyjets assistant GM leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Wanted Allen Lazard
Wanted Randall Cobb
Wanted Dalvin Cook
Wanted Billy TurnerAll dead weight.

It’s truly stunning how bad Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb have been for the #Jets.
Packers fans are going to LOVE this tweet.

Aaron Rodgers saddled this team with some of the worst receivers. Allen Lazard can’t catch or get open. Randall Cobb isn’t even good enough to dress on game day. Thanks #8 #TakeFlight

JD went into the season with the corpses of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb as our WR2 and WR3… never forget that

Allen Lazard is the third worst player in the nfl. He’s edged out by washed up Randall Cobb and above all all Billy Turner. Putting Turner even in a high school game is unconscionable. He should have been cut in the locker room #nyjets #takeflight #firesalah

As one can see, the honeymoon has ended early for Rodgers’ favorite teammates and the New York fanbase. There is a reason Green Bay let these players go, even though many fans found the moves unpopular at the time.
And now the Jets get to experience the effects of “GM” Aaron Rodgers.
