Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon did not practice on Wednesday with a neck injury. He stretched with the team on Thursday with a helmet, but unsure if he’s practicing, according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. Dillon has missed the last two games for Green Bay with a neck injury and there seems to be unclarity whether or not he is going to be available for the NFC Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.
Dillon during the regular season rushed for 613 yards on 178 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 3.4 yards per carry. He also caught 22 passes for 223 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 10.1 yards per reception.
AJ Dillon last played against the Minnesota Vikings on 12/31 when he rushed for 27 yards on seven carries. It would be a bonus for the Packers’ offense if they were able to get him back in the lineup. Patrick Taylor Jr. has taken over the number two running back role in the time being with the absence of Dillon.
AJ Dillon Returning For the Green Bay Packers Is a Nice Thought But Aaron Jones Is Playing Really Well Right Now
Dillon seems to be an afterthought right now with the way Aaron Jones is playing. Jones is on an absolute heater in the Packers’ backfield. In the last four games played, he has rushed for over 110 yards in each matchup and Green Bay has won all four of those football games.
In the NFC Wild Card Round against the Dallas Cowboys in the 48-32 victory for the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Jones rushed for 118 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Jones also caught one pass for 13 yards receiving in that contest as well.
AJ Dillon would feel like a surplus in the backfield because he is more reliable as the number two running back than Patrick Taylor Jr. is. Dillon would being active would be a good thing to have quality insurance behind Aaron Jones. The success for the Packers’ offense to operate other than quarterback Jordan Love is to get Jones going.
