Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not sure if he wants to play in 2025. If he does, he would prefer to stay with the New York Jets, but that would depend on the desires of whomever they hire as their next general manager and head coach. Additionally, Rodgers and Jets owner Woody Johnson may have to mend their relationship first.
If Rodgers does return to the NFL in 2025, and if New York wants to move on from him, there is no shortage of quarterback-needy teams that he could play for. However, one of them has reportedly ruled him out as a possibility.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Will Not Play for the Pittsburgh Steelers
One of the teams that many thought Rodgers could play for in 2025 was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will be free agents this offseason, and neither really proved they can elevate the Steelers any higher than contenders for the AFC North division.
Additionally, Rodgers reportedly has a great deal of respect for and a good relationship with Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin.
However, Gary Dulac, a Steelers insider with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette recently told Rich Eisen that they have no interest in bringing in Rodgers:
“I can tell you that it won’t be Aaron Rodgers. They have no interest in doing that.”
Rodgers is coming off of arguably the worst season of his career, a year that saw him complete 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.5 passer rating.
Wilson, the former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback, meanwhile had a 63.7% completion percentage, 2,482 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 95.6 passer rating (in 11 games).
Where Else Could Aaron Rodgers Play in 2025?
As mentioned, there is no shortage of quarterback-needy teams that Rodgers could play for next season, if he wants to play at all.
One option would be the Cleveland Browns, whose starting quarterback, Dashaun Watson, recently tore his Achilles for the second time this year.
Another team that could be in the market for Rodgers’ services is the Las Vegas Raiders who have struggled to replace Derek Carr since releasing him in the same offseason the Packers traded the four-time NFL MVP.
Other teams with young quarterbacks who struggled in 2024 include the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans. Rodgers could go to either of those teams and help mentor the younger players while giving them a season to develop.
